在2002年底，義大利的一些報紙上出現了一條特殊的尋人啟事：「 1992年5月17日，在瓦耶裏市商業區第5大道的停車場，一個白人婦女被一個黑人小夥子強暴。不久後，女人生下一個黑皮膚的女孩。她和她的丈夫毅然擔當起撫養女孩的責任。然而不幸的是，如今這個女孩得了白血病，緊急需要做骨髓移植手術。她的生父是拯救她生命的唯一希望。希望當年的當事人看到啟事後，速與伊莉莎白醫院的安德列醫生聯繫。」

這則尋人啟事在社會上引起軒然大波，人們議論的焦點是：這個黑人會站出來嗎？

We think documentation is great. We think working examples are better. We have hundreds of step by step instructions for installing and configuring the most popular open source software applications. The examples you find here were written as the steps were carried out. We don't just list the steps. We explain them. We also show you the mistakes we made and how we corrected them.

The FreeBSD Diary is the largest collection of how-to's, tutorials, and guides for FreeBSD anywhere. However, much of what you will find is generic, and can be easily adapted to any other Unix-like operating system.

We're pleased announce the addition of Ed Maste to our Board of Directors. Ed has been involved with FreeBSD since 2003. And, has been a committer since 2005. Ed leads the OS team at Sandvine and is responsible for a number of developers who bring enhancements from FreeBSD into Sandvine's OS and contribute their own changes back to FreeBSD.

We acquired a non-exclusive copyright license to the libcxxrt C++ runtime software from PathScale.

Welcome to the FreeBSD Foundation's website!

Since our founding in 2000, the FreeBSD Foundation has played a growing role in supporting the FreeBSD Project and community. Here you'll find information about all our recent activities. From managing intellectual property issues and funding development projects, to supporting technical conferences and developer collaboration, we've been very busy. I encourage you take a few minutes to browse our website and learn more about what we do.

As a 501(c)3 charity, all of our work is funded by donations. We believe strongly that the community we serve and those who trust us with their donations deserve insight into how we manage our finances. For this reason, our books are published quarterly and can be reviewed in the financial section of our website.

This year we celebrate 10 years of service to the FreeBSD community. Through conservative management and careful planning we have weathered the most severe recession in 50 years while placing the FreeBSD Foundation in the strongest financial position in our history. For 2010 we have doubled our funded project budget, sponsored more events, and expanded our travel grant programs. Our growing strength and capabilities, all made possible by your generous donations, are proof that the FreeBSD Foundation will be a faithful supporter of FreeBSD for decades to come.

Installing FreeBSD

There are many options for installing FreeBSD, including installation from CD-ROM, DVD, floppy disk, an MS-DOS® partition, magnetic tape, anonymous FTP, and NFS. Please read through the installation guide before downloading the entire FreeBSD distribution.

Buying FreeBSD

FreeBSD can be acquired on CD-ROM or DVD from FreeBSD Mall, or one of the other CD-ROM and DVD Publishers.
